Cambridgeshire Primary Schools Cross Country Relay Championships

At around 5pm on Tuesday 21st April, the boys of the Whitehall School Cross Country Relay Team gathered to warm up for a major event in the sporting calendar at Priory Park in St Neots.  With 128 teams competing, it was a chance to line up against some of the best runners in the county on what was a perfect evening for running, being sunny yet cool.
Roman York had responsibility for the opening leg of the 4 x 1200m course and got us off to a flying start with a flat out sprint for position and then after a superb run over undulating parkland he handed over the baton to Alex Johnson with the team in very good shape.  Alex maintained a steady pace through the second leg and after a great effort he passed the baton to David Keene for an important third leg.  David managed to gain several places with a fantastic run to hand over to anchor man Harry Godsell.  Harry proved his running credentials by gaining at least 8 places over a fast final push for the line.
Whitehall finished in a very commendable 53rd place overall, with a time of 21.14 and an excellent 10th place out of 23 in the ‘small school’ category.  A huge well done to the team and a big thank you to those who came along to support our runners.
