To quote Mole from Wind in the Willows, “What a day I’m having” – or, in Whitehall’s case: “What a weekend we’ve had!”

19 children entered the 2015 Peterborough Drama Festival, in either Verse Speaking or Prose Reading (some even entered both), competing against children from other schools in the area. Our children have been working really hard to prepare for this – I do not think people really know how much work goes into it or how many skills the children have to learn to perform to such a standard; they were amazing and made us all very proud. The “blue jumpers and cardigans” of Whitehall were getting some envious glances from other schools along the way!

Thank you to everyone who helped over the last few weeks by listening to their children practise at home or in school. In particular, our enormous thanks go to Mrs Brown for all the time and effort she has dedicated to our children, passing on her enthusiasm and passion for the drama; it would not have been the same without her! This is reflected in the great success the children enjoyed, coming home with 10 first places and 9 trophies, as well as several seconds and thirds. Win, lose, or draw, though, every one of those children who got up on stage to perform was a winner in our eyes.

“Thank you so much for teaching me my poem and I really enjoyed the drama festival and I cannot thank you enough” Jack Renwick, Year 3.
