Mrs Scarrowisa-cross-country-whitehall-private-school-cambridge took a group of Juniors to the ISA cross country tournament on a windy, muddy January day, competing against Independent Schools from across the region.

We all walked the course and saw how treacherous it was. Hermione Rayner was first to go in the Girls’ Year 4 category. The starter blower went and Hermione was nowhere to be seen… She was flat out on her tummy after a bit of hustle and bustle on the start line. Mrs Rayner picked her up and shouted “run!” Hermione then ran her heart out. After starting in last place she came 34th out of approximately 60 runners, well done Hermione!
Jack Renwick was up next in the Boys’ Year 4 category and the course was churned up even more. Jack battled on through the mud and came an incredible 70th out of approximately 90 runners.
Next, was the Girls’ Year 5 & 6 race with Grace Catchpole starting for Whitehall. Grace had the race of her life and even with her shoe lace undone came 24th out of approximately 90 runners, an excellent result!  The Year 6 boys now had something to challenge after superb races from the other 3 Whitehall children.
In the Year 5 & 6 Boys’ race we had a quad of Roman York, Logan Carver, Alex Johnson and Henry Stancombe. They all looked good on the start line, finding a spot towards the front, out of the mud. The buzzers went and off they flew. Roman was heading up the Whitehall pack with the others soon following behind. Just 20 metres from the finish line after a great run, Roman started to get tired which saw Henry and Logan out of nowhere march up the rankings. Henry came 35th, Logan 47th, Roman 51st and Alex who needs to be commended for not walking any of the course came 89th out of approximately 95 runners.
As always, the Whitehall spirit showed through and the children ran well and enjoyed their day on the muddy cross country course – well done Junior Cross Country Team!
