Key Stage 1

In Key Stage One, each year group is taught by a class teacher with input from specialist teachers for music and PE.

The National Curriculum guidelines are used, with the following subjects being taught: numeracy, literacy, science, ICT, design technology, geography, history, music, physical education, art and craft, religious education and PHSE. Local visits are used to enhance the curriculum.

The development of reading and literacy is a key to children's learning and is given a high priority, with the recent introduction of a new reading scheme and a wide selection of ‘big books’. An individual reading programme is monitored daily in the early years and parental involvement is strongly encouraged.

Throughout Key Stage One, pupils are regularly assessed and their progress closely monitored. The National Tests (SATs) are taken in Year 2 and are moderated externally. Parents receive regular updates of their children’s progress via termly reports and twice yearly consultation evenings.
