Whitehall School Child Protection Policy

Introduction

Whitehall School fully recognises the contribution it makes to Child Protection. There are three main elements to our policy:

a) Prevention through the teaching and pastoral support offered to pupils

b) Procedures for identifying and reporting cases, or suspected cases, of abuse. Because of our day-to-day contact with children, school staff are well placed to observe the outward signs of abuse.

c) Support to pupils who may have been abused.

Rationale

A Child Protection policy is a statutory requirement and in an independent school it is good practice that we put in place procedures for handling cases of suspected abuse, including allegations against teachers. In this way we meet our legal obligations as defined in the Children Act 1989 and the Human Rights Act.
